Principles

Principles from martial arts

I have a passion for these principles. When you understand them you can use them everywhere and anytime.

Jiujitsu

At first you will se a trick, a technique.

After some time you will discover the principle behind the technique.

Some will then understand that the principle can be applied in many different situations.

More information about the Durewall Jiujitsu can be found at: http://www.jiujitsu.se/

Kurt and Marja Durewall worked as a team

and all this would never had been

devoloped without them.

Thank you so much Kurt and Marja!

Principles

We divide the principles in Three Groups:

1. The main / Durewall principle:

"With

minimal force

achieve maximum effect

without causing

pain or injury"

2. Six basic principles

Protection       Balance        Movement

Firmness          Softness      Consideration

3. Principles

Most principles here are well know in physics, mechanics, bodymechanics and strategy. The unique thing Kurt Durewall did was to put the in to a systematic educational system and use the in totally different areas.

Protection

Protect yourself from attacks/accidents and your body from other injuries.

This principle is important Before, during and after you do a technique. Eyes is the best defense against both attacks and accidents. Always evaluate risks and search for the safest solution.

Balance

The body position with minimum necessary muscle strain

To have balance is quite easy. To keep balance is hard. It is important to practise and use body awareness exercises.

Movement

Move to change the situation to your advantage

Movement is very important to keep balance, to use minimum force and to be protected.

It is so important that even that we have balance, softness and protection as basic principles movement was added.

Firmness

Be firm and decisive in your verbal and physical defense

Hesitation will destroy your rhytm and make your moves loose it´s flow.

Your opponent will feel that you hesitate and that will make them get stronger.

Softness

Overcome opposition Power with minimal force

Ju or Jiu that starts the Word Judo or Jiujitsu is often translated to softness. What it means is that you should use minimum force.

Consideration

Show kindness, respect and esteem for your fellow human beings

Every solution should be with minimum violence and we should treat the opponent as good as possible without risking our safety.

In self defense we do not allow revenge. That means that if you can choose between two or more self defense techniques you should Always choose the one that is most human and least violence.
